With Maharashtra police forces currently risking their lives on the frontline to protect and save others during the Covid-19 pandemic, some of India’s biggest names have come together to show their support for those enforcing the law and assisting those in need.
This has seen many across the country change their Twitter display pictures to the Maharashtra Police logo in a show of solidarity and gratitude for their work.
International megastar Akshay Kumar is one of the leading names to embrace this movement when he too changed his picture on his Twitter page to dedicate it to a state police force which serves more than 114M people.
In a heart-felt tribute, the Sooryavanshi star tweeted the following message to his 36M followers:
“Everyday I hear incidents of bravery of our frontline workers who are putting fear & exhaustion aside and putting us first. One such hero is our Maharashtra Police, I’m changing my DP to theirs as a mark of respect. Join in, together let’s say #DilSeSalute to them @DGPMaharashtra.”
The movement was triggered by Maharashtra’s Home Minister Anil Deshmukh who urged people to stand by their police men and women by changing their social media pictures to the logo.
Joining Akshay Kumar by adding a splash of navy blue were the likes of Dia Mirza, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, while cricketers Virat Kohli and Dhawal Kulkarni also showed their support.
Akshay Kumar has been one of the most frequent figures from the entertainment world to continually show his support for the country’s essential service providers. This included a generous donation of Rs 2 crore (£212,624) to the Mumbai Police Foundation while he has also expressed his sorrow for officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty fighting the virus.
